I haven't been able to follow either developments very closely. When I first heard you were working on this, my immediate thought was "isn't that what Guardian is already doing with Site Guardian?". I was relieved to see in your recent news post that you are planning on integration with RN and Site Guardian.

Any chance you could give a summary of how nukeSPAM(tm) and Site Guardian would compliment and work together?

Site Guardian's initial focus is blocking bad referrers. nukeSPAM block user registration by known spammers.

Not sure of Guardian's future plans for Site Guardian, but I am interested in adding Akismet or other content filtering to comments, forum posts, etc. That said, using a comment system like Disqus, which already has that built-in (and in already integrated with Tricked Out News), might be all we need...

Sorry for the tardy reply, I have been away for the last couple of months and am just catching up.
Site Guardian (TM) blocks bad referrers and also utilises a user configurable list of pre-determined blacklists; in a later release I hope to allow the user to add their own blacklist provider if they are not already incorporated.
The base code is 99% complete as is the administration area and I'm hoping to finish of the remaining code and complete testing during the next week.

Site Guardian also includes both htaccess writing and DB storage of 'bad' referrers/IP's (users can take their pick as to which to use) as well as various 'reports' for the captured data.
I'll forward a copy as soon as it's ready.

I should add for clarity that all 'detection' is done during the initial referrer/IP's access to the website, so in theory, they shouldn't even get as far as attempting to register, though I'm aware there are specific blacklists for user registration like StopForumSpam (I think it's called).

I can not wait until nukeSPAM is released. I have been fighting Chinese spammers for the past week....

I've been having a bunch of bogus users lately registering for what I am calling "profile spamming". They are looking to get their website into either of several fields: website, signature, location, etc. I finally got so tired of it, that I just shut off all these fields that are big enough to embed a link into.

I also believe folks are "profile spamming" the "Membership" links in the Site Info block. I really need to just remove that code altogether.

While that slowed things down a little, I am now starting to get more forum spam. Very frustrating and time-consuming to keep on top of.

The Community definitely needs something that will stop these and other types of spamming.

nukeSPAM has been very effective, even in its infancy (Beta), in blocking spammer registrations. I hope to also use it to block feedback / contact us spam, of which I've also been receiving more lately.

The main remaining task for basic functionality is to enable admin configuration (the various blocking sources require API keys to control full access). I also need to address the ability to support multiple languages for the failure messages. For this, I am thinking of using a database table so the text can be configured.
